Here you can swim with dolphins on Curacao

Have you always wanted to swim with dolphins? Or at least simply want to experience dolphins closer? On the beautiful island of Curacao, your dream can come true! In fact, this island is home to the Dolphin Academy Curacao, where you can do all kinds of things with and learn about dolphins! Here you also do not necessarily have to swim with dolphins if you prefer not to, as the Dolphin Academy Curacao offers many more activities related to dolphins. If you go to the Dolphin Academy Curacao, you will experience a day you will never forget!

The Dolphin Academy Curacao

The Dolphin Academy Curacao offers a number of different activities related to dolphins. For example, they offer an activity called the “Dolphin Swim. Here you will be able to enjoy a special and personal experience with dolphins. During this activity, you have the opportunity to actually swim with dolphins! If you swim alongside the dolphins, you will do so in their own natural lagoon. However, it is true that the dolphins will choose for themselves whether they want to swim with you or not. That’s why at the Dolphin Academy Curacao you can learn more about their behavior at the same time so you can better understand them. Swimming with dolphins takes 1.5 hours total, of which you will be in the water for 30 minutes. Also, one must be at least 8 years and 1.30 meters for this and there is a maximum group size of 6 people per 2 dolphins, so that it does not become too crowded for the dolphins. This unique experience costs approx. $174. This admission also includes admission to the Curacao Sea Aquarium.

Admire the dolphins from a distance

If you prefer not to swim with the dolphins, Dolphin Academy Curacao also gives you the opportunity to choose a ‘Dolphin Encounter’. In doing so, you will stand in the water on a kind of platform where you can also meet the dolphins. During this activity, you will learn everything there is to know about dolphins! This activity, like swimming with dolphins, takes 1.5 hours of which you will spend 20 minutes in the water. Although there is no minimum height for this activity, only a maximum of 6 people are allowed with 1 dolphin. This experience is perfect if you want to get close to the dolphins and learn more about these special animals, but prefer not to swim with them. Also, this activity may be more suitable for younger children since there is no minimum age requirement. Admission for this activity costs approx. $50 for children between 1 and 4 years old and approx. $99 for anyone over the age of 5. This activity also gives you direct access to the Curacao Sea Aquarium.

For those who would like to learn especially a lot about dolphins, the Dolphin Academy Curacao offers a Dolphin in Depth Course, where you will learn in detail what it is like to live and work with dolphins. In doing so, you will take a high-level course involving research on dolphins both past and present. However, this course is only for those who are at least 15 years old. You will also learn in this course how to train dolphins for the public. The Dolphin in Depth Course consists of two different levels, where you can choose whether to do them at the same time or, for example, during different vacations to Curacao. At the first level, you will learn how a training session with dolphins goes, meet the dolphins and learn how exactly preparing the food and feeding the dolphins works. At the second level, you will learn more about dolphin behavior in the water and conduct an experiment with echolocation. The course lasts 4 hours and is for a group of up to 6 people. The course at the first level costs approx. $349 and that of the second level costs approx. $549. When you purchase the course, you do get food and a manual with it.

Diving with dolphins

Are you more into diving? Dolphin Academy also offers an Open Water Dolphin Dive, for example. This involves diving with up to 10 people in the open sea. This is perfect for immersing yourself completely in the world of the dolphins themselves and so you can see what the natural behavior of dolphins is when they are in the ocean. This exciting activity is possible from as young as 12 years old, though there is a minimum height of 1.30 meters. You will spend a total of 1.5 hours on this experience, during which you will spend 45 minutes in the water. The entire experience costs approx. $295, which also gives you direct access to the Curacao Sea Aquarium. A diving certification is also possible for this and, unfortunately, the experience is not suitable for pregnant women. However, the equipment for diving is already included in the price, so you don’t have to think about anything yourself.

Dolphin spotting

Of course, if you prefer to go out on your own to see dolphins, this is also possible. First of all, dolphins can, of course, be found at Sea Aquarium Park. Here you can admire the dolphins extensively. If you would prefer to see them in the open sea, the best way to do so is when the Dolphin Academy takes the dolphins out to the open sea. In doing so, they will head mainly toward Mambo Beach and Zanzibar. To get a good view of dolphins from the shore, it is important to look out to sea, keeping a close eye on the horizon. The best thing to do then is to keep looking from left to right to see if there is water splashing up somewhere or if there are birds anywhere. Pay particular attention to anything that is not a smooth surface of water. It is also possible to spot dolphins on a boat trip. This way you can even have dolphins swimming around you! Here it is important to watch the waves behind or beside the boat, as dolphins like to jump over waves. If you take a boat trip to Klein Curacao, you have the best chance of seeing dolphins.

You can also always rent a boat to spot dolphins. With any luck, the will swim with your boat and show off their very best tricks! You can also join Curacao Trips on a boat trip to the paradise-like uninhabited island of Klein Curacao. There is also a chance to spot dolphins during this wonderful boat trip to the island!
